The Grumman G-73 Mallard is a medium, twin-engined amphibious aircraft developed by Grumman Aircraft. It was designed for commercial use, building on the success of earlier Grumman amphibious aircraft like the Goose and Widgeon. Designed to take off and land on both water and land. It has a stepped hull for water operations, retractable landing gear, and high wings with underwing floats. Unlike earlier Grumman amphibians, it features tricycle landing gear, stressed skin, a two-step hull, and wingtip fuel tanks. Many Mallards have been modified with modern turboprop engines, typically Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6A series, to become "Turbo Mallards" (G-73T). This upgrade significantly boosts performance and operating economy. Grumman built a total of 59 G-73 Mallard aircraft between 1946 and 1951. These twin-engine amphibious aircraft were primarily used for corporate and private ownership, including by figures like Roy Fruehauf and the Aga Khan.
