Our marble inlay box features Malachite, White Mother of Pearl and Jaisalmer stone in Vietnam white marble. For example, Jaisalmer Stone was sourced from Jaisalmer, India, nicknamed "The Golden City."
One of the seven wonders of the world, the Taj Mahal is known for its snow-white marble sourced from Makrana, Rajasthan. Shah Jahan, the Mughal emperor who constructed the Taj in memory of his wife, deliberately chose to use this marble because of its luminous quality.
Lesser known, but equally significant, is that the Taj Mahal is embellished with parchin kari, a Persian term for marble inlay work. Parchin kari is the art of cutting and assembling various semi-precious and precious into geometric and floral motifs so precisely that the contact between each section is virtually invisible.
Artisans who constructed the Taj used as many as twenty-six stones sourced from Afghanistan, China and Turkey, among other countries, to create these designs. Very few artisans in India remain to keep the art and legacy of parchin kari alive.
Keep a piece of Mughal-era architecture alive. Store knick knacks, jewelry, or leave as-is as a statement piece.
